    WHAT IS IT?

Reduction Genioplasty also known as Chin Reduction is a type of plastic surgery performed to reshape the gonion which is pushed too far forward. Surgical operation is used in patients with a chin that is too far forward and is too long. The aim is to achieve a more aesthetic appearance in patients particularly from side view. *There is no surgery scar after genioplasty as it is an intraoral operation.

    WHO NEEDS IT?

    • Patients with a chin that is too far forward due to physical or congenital disorders
    ANESTHESIA METHOD
    • Local Anesthesia
    • General Anesthesia

HOW IS IT PERFORMED? The bony tissue is slid backward through an operation. An equal amount of bone is excised and removed out from the left and right sides of the lower chin (mandibula). Sometimes the gonion is downsized and slid backward by rasping the lower chin. *In some cases, orthognathic surgery is used (to correct the closing of the lower and upper chins). In some others, surgery is performed following the orthodontic treatment (dental braces). CHIN REDUCTION RECOVERY The patient will have difficulty in eating and needs to go on a liquid diet for around a week as the surgery takes place in the patient’s eating path.

    • A rubber will be fixed on the chin for 1 week.
    • There may be swelling and bruising for 10 days.
