    WHAT IS IT?

Augmentation Genioplasty also known as Chin Augmentation is a type of plastic surgery performed to reshape the gonion which is pushed too far backward. An implant is used in patients with a chin that is too far backward. The aim is to achieve a more aesthetic appearance in patients particularly from side view. There is no surgery scar after genioplasty as it is an intraoral operation. WHO NEEDS IT?

    • Patients with a chin that is too far backward due to physical or congenital disorders
    ANESTHESIA METHOD
    • Local Anesthesia
    • General Anesthesia
HOW IS IT PERFORMED? In minor cases, filling material may be sufficient (hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxyapatite crystals, transplantation of the patient’s own lipid tissue which is rich in root-cells). Prosthesis is used in more serious cases (silicone implants, medpor-propyl-ethylene). In chin reduction surgery; an equal amount of bone is excised and removed out from the left and right sides of the lower chin (mandibula), then the gap between the plaques and screws are used for fixing. Sometimes the same method is used to slide the chin forward compared to the upper chin. The too far backward position of the chin is treated in this way. *In some cases, orthognathic surgery is used (to correct the closing of the lower and upper chins). In some others, surgery is performed following the orthodontic treatment (dental braces).

CHIN AUGMENTATION RECOVERY The patient will have difficulty in eating and needs to go on a liquid diet for around a week as the surgery takes place in the patient’s eating path.

    • A rubber will be fixed on the chin for 1 week.
    • There may be swelling and bruising for 10 days.
