Tummy Tuck also known as Abdominoplasty is an operation performed to correct saggings, fractures in the tummy and to have an aesthetic contour. By abdominoplasty, excess fats and saggy skin tissue are removed, tummy muscles are tightened up. If sagging is not a problem and there is only excess fat, it can be removed with liposuction. If this problem is accompanied with the looseness of the tummy muscles, during the operation the muscles should also be tightened.

• Patients who have saggings in their tummies and cannot find a solution to this problem, especially women who have cracks and saggings after birth

HOW IS IT PERFORMED?

• Mini abdominoplasty: It is preferred if the excess skin is under the belly button. The operation is performed just above the pubic area not to have a visible scar. If there is sagging up to the tummy level, it is removed with proper stitches. If there is excess fat in the upper part, then it is removed with liposuction. With this method, there is no need to form a new belly button. Depending on the condition, a drain is fixed under the tissue to prevent accumulation of the leakage.

• Total abdominoplasty: It is suggested when there is excess fat or tissue both in the lower and upper parts of the tummy. With this technique, excess skin is removed generally up to the tummy level. A new belly button is formed. Excess fat is removed with liposuction. If there is sagging in thetummy muscles, it is tightened with proper stitches. With this method, the waist becomes thinner and the tummy reaches a flat shape. After this process, the upper and lower tissues are attached to each other with intradermic stitches. Drains are put to prevent any leakage accumulation problems.

LENGTH OF THE OPERATION

• Approximately 2 hours (Total abdominoplasty can take 5 hours)

LENGTH OF STAY IN HOSPITAL

• Mini tummy tuck: 1 day stay in hospital (Can leave the hospital after the operation)
• Total tummy tuck: 2 day stay in hospital (The stay can be 3-5 days depending on the condition of drain leakage)

TUMMY TUCK RECOVERY

• If there is tenseness in the stitch line, depending on the condition, it is advisable to walk in bending position for 2-3 or 3-5 days. For one month, the patient should wear a corset.
• You shouldn’t smoke for 1 month before and after the operation.
• Stitches are removed in 1 week. The operation scar in abdominoplasty is the same with the Caeserian section. It is a little longer. This line is under the bikini area so it is invisible when swimming.
• After the stitches are removed,the patient can have a shower.
• Depending on the recovery state, the patient can have social life after 1-2 week.
• For 1 monthh a special corset should be worn.
• It is not advisable to swim until the scars have recovered.
• Heavy duties and sports are not suggested for 2 months.
• In the operation area, there may be numbness. It disappears approximately in 6 months.
• The patient can deliver a baby after 1,5-2 years.
